Understanding Aged Care Pathways

Understanding the My Aged Care assessment process

Understanding Aged-Care Pathways

A clearer place to start with aged care

My Aged Care is the main starting point for Australian Government aged-care services. WattleCare Services can help explain the general steps while our provider registration is being progressed, but we do not replace My Aged Care, assessment teams or government approval processes.

My Aged Care

What is My Aged Care?

My Aged Care is the Australian Government starting point for aged-care information, assessments and access to funded services.

Once a person has been assessed and approved, they can choose a registered aged-care provider that meets their needs and service area.

WattleCare Services can help explain the general steps, but we do not replace My Aged Care or the formal assessment process.

Important clarification

Formal aged-care assessments are arranged through the Australian Government aged-care system. WattleCare does not complete official My Aged Care assessments or determine government eligibility.

Understanding the Process

Four steps to help you understand the pathway

You do not need to understand the entire aged-care system before asking for help. These are the main steps most people will encounter when exploring Australian Government-funded aged care.

01

Start with My Aged Care

My Aged Care is the main starting point for Australian Government aged-care services.

02

Prepare for assessment

It can help to gather information about daily routines, health needs, mobility, safety, support networks and what is becoming harder at home.

03

Understand your options

Once assessment and approval are complete, people can choose a registered provider that suits their needs and location.

04

Ask questions early

You do not need to understand the whole system before asking for help. WattleCare can answer general questions while registration is being progressed.

Prepare for Assessment

Information that may help you prepare

You do not need to have everything perfectly organised, but gathering a few details can help the assessment conversation reflect what is really happening at home.

  • Information about daily routines and activities that are becoming harder to manage
  • Current health needs, medications and recent hospital or medical care
  • Mobility, falls, home safety or other concerns affecting independence
  • Existing support provided by family members, friends, carers or community services
  • Personal goals, preferences and the type of support that may make daily life safer or easier
  • Questions you or your chosen support person would like to ask

You may choose to have a family member, representative or trusted support person involved in the assessment conversation.

Questions?

You can ask for help before you understand it all

WattleCare Services can help explain general aged-care pathways, where My Aged Care fits and what information may be useful before speaking with an assessment team.

We are not currently accepting funded clients, referrals or bookings, but we can respond to general enquiries while provider registration is being progressed.
